Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will the marina be accessible at all states of the tide?
A. Yes: the entrance will be directly into the deep-water channel and the marina will be dredged to approximately 2.9m below the low water mark, although this depth will vary across the basin so that larger vessels can be accommodated.

Q. Aha. But what about silting up?
A. This happens to all marinas and in this case is not expected to be a problem. A rate of around 10cm per year is anticipated and maintenance dredging would be undertaken to deal with this. It is calculated that this would be required approximately every three to six years.

Q. What will happen to the dredged material?
A. Any suitable material is intended for use as infill for hard standing while the remainder will be removed to an authorised dumping location, subject to DEFRA licensing. A number of alternative sites are also being considered.

Q. What size boats will be berthed / lifted out?
A. Berth sizes will reflect projected demand and plans have not been finalised at this stage. Current indications suggest a boat hoist with a capacity of around 40-50T.

Q. What will the charges be?
A. This can not be finalised until later, although expect them to be competitive and comparable with Pwllheli and Conwy.

Q. Will there be berths available for visitors?
A. Yes! It is anticipated that around 2,000 boats would visit the marina each year, so space will be made available.

Q. What associated developments will there be?
A. There are no plans for any facilities other than those needed for the day to day running of the marina and boat servicing.

Q. But what happens if I want a cool beer after a hot summer day's sailing?
A. Beaumaris is only a few minutes walk away and the exercise might make you hungry enough to sample one of the town's eateries.

Q. When will it be built?
A. The Welsh Assembly Government approved the dredging licence in April 2006 and hope to start on site before the end of the year: construction will take approximately 18 months.
