Vetus Bow Thrusters

When manoeuvring a boat at low speed, the required control of the movement of the boat, especially that of the bow, is extremely difficult to achieve.

In such cases, a bow thruster is the solution to the problems. Even when the boat is not under way, complete control of the movements of the bow can be achieved by operating the bow thruster.

IPSET	-	Installing a bow thruster into a petrol-powered boat can be dangerous, due to the possibility of the electric motor igniting fuel vapour. Vetus are able to supply ignition-protected bow thrusters which comply with ISO 8846 marine ignition protection standard. The housing is also watertight to IP65. Bow thrusters models BOW55, BOW75, BOW95 & BOW125 in 12v and 24v versions.
BP	-	Vetus bow thruster tunnels are available available in glassfibre reinforced polyester, steel or aluminium, in lengths of 0.75m, 1m, 1.5m, 2m & 3m. Outer diameters vary depending on material, but are usually around 10mm greater than the internal diameter.
STERN	-	Vetus bow thruster motors may also be installed as stern thrusters, in which case a GRP stern thruster kit may be supplied: this consists of a pod which may be bolted to the back of the transom, with the motor remaining inside. Please note that these kits are not suitable for installtion into boats powered by a sterndrive.

Bow thruster control panels

All Vetus control panels for electric bow thruster panels are watertight to IP65 and have a panel power on indicator. Standard warning features include an LED and buzzer alert in the event of continuous running for more than 2 minutes. Panels with a time lapse function will also switch off after 30 minutes of inactivity.

BPA	This kit allows installtion of new-style panels (BPSE2, BPJE2, BPSSE or BPJSE) in place of an older style BPS or BPJ panel.	-

BPTD12 BPTD24	Time lapse device which may be fitted to panels type BPJSTA, BPSM, AFSTFR, AFSTFG and earlier model panels without time delay. Eliminates the risk of the bow thruster being switched directions too quickly, thus recommended for hire craft to prevent motor damage.	-
RCBP RCBP2	With this radio connection, a bow or stern thruster may be controlled using one of the Vetus control panels, without the need to install an interconnecting cable. Installation of the thruster, particularly as a retro-fit, will thus be much simpler and less time-consuming. This kit consists of a transmitter and receiver, complete with connection plus. Hydraulic bow thrusters 55kgf to 550kgf

All Vetus hydraulic bow thrusters are now supplied with the hydraulic motor included. We can also supply hydraulic control systems including tanks, load sensing devices, hydraulic pumps and control devices.
