Vetus Engine Controls


Three distinct 'families' of Vetus control are available.

Mechanical: The traditional method, using two pull-push cables direct from the control box to the engine and gearbox. ABC Powermarine can also supply a full range of 33C cables as well as all the necessary fittings.

Hydraulic: a hydraulic system for when the distance between the engine and the steering position results in the potential of unwanted slack.

Electric: this system facilitates easy installation as only a simple wire is required between the steering position and the central control computer.

Mechanical Controls

Two different types of mechanical control are available: type RC is supplied with a cast aluminium housing and type AFS is supplied with plastic housing and chrome plated lever. 33C type cables may be supplied for controls in lengths from 0.5m to 15m in both 'standard' and 'low friction' types. We advise the use of low-friction contrl cables for installations with tight bends and for all cable lengths over 7m.

DC Shut-off control for stopping engine with connection for 33C pull-push cable. Installs horizontally or vertically. DC
DS This unit combines the action of the single lever control for either of two command stations and provides a single output to the engine throttle lever or the gearbox lever. Per engine, two dual station units are needed: one for the gearbox (type DS) and one for the throttle (type DS or type DSKITF). DS
DSKITF This unit combines the action of the single lever control for either of two command stations and provides a single output to the engine throttle lever: this is only suitable for throttle control by pulling. DSKITF
CABLE A mid-range Type 33C control cable that is recommended for shorter and simpler cable runs. These cables may be used with Vetus, Morse, Teleflex, Ultraflex and other engine remote controls. Available in half-metre increments from 0.5m to 10m. Nominal travel: 75mm. Minimum bendradius: 130mm. Standard rod 10-32 UNF threaded ends. CABLE
CABLELF A high quality Type 33C control cable which uses a multi-strand wire core for superb strength and flexibility. The core has aribbed synthetic sheath, ensuring that contact with the outer casing is kept at a minimum, thus LF cables are suitable for long and complicated runs and for dual station installations. These cables may be used with Vetus, Morse, Teleflex, Ultraflex and other engine remote controls. Available in half-metre increments from 0.5m to 10m. Nominal travel: 75mm. Minimum bendradius: 130mm. Hydraulic Controls

Especially in the case of boats with a large distance between the engine and the steering position, the application of conventional push-pull cables may cause unwanted tolerance ("slack"). Vetus hydraulic engine controls offer an excellent solution here.

Electronic Controls

Vetus have a collaboration with Roxroth, leaders in the field of electronic engine controls, to market an electronic remote control system for pleasure craft and smaller commercial vessels. These have a modern appearance and are absolutely watertight and can thus be fitted externally.

RECOBOX Central control unit for Vetus electronic engine controls, to be installed in the engine room. Capable of accepting additional interface cards and an autosynchroniser card. RECOBOX
RECOACT Universal servo motor for mechanically controlling either the throttle or the gearshift. Required if the fuel injection pump ancd/or the gearbox is mechanically controlled by meand of a short pull-push cable. Where both functions are required, the two servo motors should be installed, positioned as close to the engine as possible. RECOACT
RECOPCB Interface card for electronic control of throttle and/or gearbox, to be used if the fuel injection pump or gearbox is electrically actuated. Fitted inside the central control unit: only one card is required per engine and this will control gearbox and throttle. RECOPCB
RECOSYNC Interface card for auto-synchronication of two engines, to be fitted in the central control unit. RECOSUNC
